PSBB K.K. Nagar Pair Wins Madras Quiz
PSBB KK Nagar students win The Hindu Madras Quiz, celebrating Chennai's history and culture with engaging questions and a new book launch.
K.L. Dheeraj and Ramesh Krishna S. of PSBB, K.K. Nagar, emerged winners of The Hindu Madras Quiz held at The Hindu office on Anna Salai on Friday.
K.G. Badri Charan and Sai Karthik P.R. of MCC Public School and Udhaiyan S. and Sathwin K. of Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ponneri, bagged the second and third places respectively.
The quiz focused on several interesting aspects related to Chennai.
At the event, Su. Venkatesan, MP from Madurai, and V.P. Jeyaseelan, Director of Tourism and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, launched the book ‘Madras Mosaic - A Quiz Lover’s Guide’ of The Hindu. The book is an ode to the city of Madras, now Chennai, and contains questions on various subjects of relevance to the history, culture, architecture, politics and entertainment of the city.
A total of 30 teams, comprising students from Classes X, XI, and XII from various schools in the city, participated in the preliminary round. Of these, six teams qualified for the finals.
In the preliminary round, the teams, comprising two students each, were given 15 questions. Quite a few questions were about the landmarks near The Hindu. For instance, the original name of this park is also the name of a present-day bridge in Chennai (Answer: Napier Bridge) was one of the questions asked .
Arvind Rajeev, founder of X Quiz It, who was the quizmaster, stated they framed the questions keeping Gen Z and their parents in mind. “Many children don’t know much of the history of the city. That knowledge has dwindled because they don’t read the books by the chroniclers of the city; rather they get to know about the city through social media. This quiz has questions about the old Madras and the new Singara Chennai. Quizzes organised by The Hindu bridges this gap, and they become aware of the city’s history,” he added.
