Swiss ski star Lara Gut-Behrami calls time on 18-year career
Swiss ski star Lara Gut-Behrami announced her retirement on Wednesday ending a glittering career that brought Olympic gold, two overall World Cup triumphs and two world titles.
The 35-year-old suffered a serious knee injury last November that ruled her out of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
Gut-Behrami told Swiss television that despite all her falls she was suffering no pain and she did not want to push her luck after 18 seasons on the elite circuit.
"I have had the good fortune and the honour to enjoy a long and intense career, to express my dreams and aspirations through skiing, and to share that journey with extraordinary people," the 2016 and 2024 overall World Cup Crystal Globe winner said.
"That is also why I know the time has come.... trying to force my body and mind to endure and manage pain would only tarnish the image I carry within me of something I have pursued with such passion."
She won her first World Cup race in 2008 with a super-G at St Moritz and claimed a total of 101 World Cup podiums including 48 victories.
Gut-Behrami won three Olympic medals -- gold in the super-G and bronze in the giant slalom at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and bronze in the downhill in 2014 Sochi.
She also won nine world championship medals including two gold.
In her specialty the super-G, Gut-Behrami has amassed six World Cup globes, most recently in 2025 and one in giant slalom in 2024.
